FAQ
Quick answers to common questions.
Is routess free?
Yes. routess is open source and self-hosted, and a self-hosted instance has every feature unlocked. The hosted version at routess.com is free for planning, GPX import and export, 3 generated routes a day when signed in, and up to 5 saved routes. Pro, a one-off year pass, adds 50 generated routes a day, unlimited saved routes, knooppunt route generation, turn-by-turn navigation, collections, and API tokens for the CLI and agents.
Do I need an account?
No. You can plan, save and export routes without one: routes saved while signed out live in this browser on this device. Create a free account (or sign in) and they move into it, so they are on every device you sign in on. Publishing, social features and sync need an account.
What data does routess store?
- Your name and email (from Google sign-in or email signup)
- Your saved routes (waypoints + metadata)
routess collects anonymous usage events on a self-hosted analytics instance to understand which features get used. These events never include your email, your route names, or your raw account ID. There are no third-party trackers.
Can I export my routes?
Yes. Open a route and use Save as GPX in the sidebar to download it. You can also import GPX files into the planner. TCX, FIT, and KML imports are planned.
Can I run my own copy?
Yes, routess is open source. See Developer Docs → Operations.
